FAQ
- Q: Who is involved in this?
- A: The initial members of the initial circle are Rufus Pollock, James Baker, and Kevin Triplett.
- Q: How much money is involved?
- A: As of pilot kickoff March 2025: Approximately $20k precommitment by initial circle, aiming to learn effectively at small scale.
- Q: Can I recommend someone or something to receive support?
- A: Yes, we welcome suggestions to the pilot circle. TODO: easy referral form.
- Q: Are y'all making any money from this in any way?
- A: No.
- Q: Can I give you money to give away?
- A: No. (Creatign a "fund" is fairly far down the possible roadmap.)
- Q: Will you tell me who to give money to?
- A: Not now but eventually sort of. On the one hand, we believe that wise giving is relational and distributed and thus there exists no globally-optimal set of recommendations. However, we as persons are of course already embedded in a relational web, and may usefully add our sense-making to their own. Therefore we currently do intend to create and distribute a "recommendation portfolio" at some point this year.
About the Pledge
- Q: Why a pledge?
- A: To shape our own behavior, to make visible what's happening, and to build social momentum that encourages more flow.
- Q: How long does this pledge last?
- A: Our current design is that the pledge describes one (current) calendar year, and is not assumed to renew.
- Q: Where does my pledge data go?
- A: Your personalized data, including your name, will be seen only by you and pledge administrators. All financial data and analysis released by the program will be aggregated and/or stringently anonymized.
- Q: I don't have money to give, what about pledging hours?
- A: We agree that money absolutely isn't the only form of value! We think scoping our focus to financial giving makes sense for this project at this time, but are very open to shifting direction as the path unfolds.
